Once Upon a Time Recap and Review: “A Taste of the Heights”
On Friday night’s episode of Once Upon a Time, the episode focuses on Tiana/Sabine’s story in both the fairytale world and in Hyperion Heights. Dr. Facilier returns to shake things up, things continue to heat up between Henry and Jacinda, and Weaver and Rogers look into Eloise Gardner, AKA Mother Gothel, and her witches cult.
Jacinda invites Henry over for family game night where Lucy leaves them to play games on their own after she beats Henry at checkers. Jacinda and Henry get closer after she shows him the mixtape she made for him but their almost-kiss is interrupted by Lucy. Even though the two of them getting together was what she wanted, she finds a new page in her storybook that falls out that shows her why Henry can’t break the curse; his heart is poisoned and he’ll die if he wakes up.
While Henry and Jacinda have game night, Hyperion Heights holds a food truck festival where Sabine finally opens up her shop where Drew, Naveen’s counterpart shows up with his own food truck to compete. A cop shows up asking for her safety permits, and is warned from an anonymous tip, and it turns out she doesn’t have it, meaning she can’t sell from her food truck. Turns out Mr. Samedi, Dr. Facilier’s cursed name, may have been involved, acting as Drew’s silent partner. But Drew comes back around and gives her his food safety permit in the end because Mr. Samedi told him to, for a reason we still don’t know yet.
Meanwhile, Weaver and Rogers look into the death/murder of Lucy’s nurse, which happened at the end of last week’s episode. They find out that she wasn’t killed because she found out about Henry’s patronage but it was actually because she was part of the cult. They end up going to a bakery where they meet a blind old lady, who ends up being another witch who they find on the ground in an attempted murder. In other words, they find out that there’s someone out there killing off people/witches in this cult.
In the fairy tale world, Dr. Facilier returns and tells Tiana right before her coronation that something evil is coming and tells her to go to a certain part of the woods to find out if he’s lying or not. There, everyone meets Prince Naveen, who is also hunting this creature, who turns out to be an alligator. After finding out where the gator is, Naveen and Tiana go out on the boat to kill the creature where she accuses him of being in cahoots with Dr. Facilier and ends up accidentally knocking him off the boat. The gator swims by and kills Naveen but is revived and taken away by Dr. Facilier. But regardless, Naveen still shows up in Hyperion Heights but his cursed self is working for Dr. Facilier. With everything else going on with the witches, maybe he’s the one behind everything. But the why of it all is still unclear.
But despite his escape, Dr. Facilier shows up again with a necklace he got from the gator, which turns out to be Regina’s. Apparently Regina and Dr. Facilier have history together, romantic history. Because of their history, Regina realizes, unbeknownst to Zelena, that he is awake (from the curse) and goes to him to confront him where he invites her inside. We don’t exactly know what their relationship was like in the past and whether or not they’ve gotten back together; he applauds her for figuring it out and invites her inside, she says no but then walks into the open door anyways.
