Oregon vs Fresno State Preview and Prediction
Oregon vs Fresno State Preview
In one of the most underrated matchups of the college basketball slate today, the Oregon Ducks head to Fresno, California to take on a pesky Fresno State team.
Despite the fact that the Ducks were a Final Four team a year ago, they are a shell of their former selves. Dillon Brooks, Tyler Dorsey and Jordan Bell are gone and that leaves Dana Altman with one of his most difficult tasks during his tenure in Eugene. Coach up his kids to play above their talent level.
Fresno State comes into this game as winners of seven in a row, and hold a record of 9-2 overall. The Bulldogs are slight favorites in a contest expected to be tightly contested and largely seen as a toss-up.
For the Ducks, this will be their first true road game of the season and they will have to handle the crowd in a sometimes raucous Save Mart Center. Oregon won their third straight game on Wednesday night, defeating Portland State 95-84. It wasn’t their most impressive win as last year’s team probably would have beaten the Pilots by 30. But a win is a win and the Ducks will take it. The win increased their record to 8-3 and 7-1 at home.
Payton Pritchard was on the Ducks Final Four team a season ago, but he has been given a lot more responsibility this year and is one of the few holdovers from that team. Pritchard is averaging 16 points per game to go along with 4.6 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals.
As previously stated the Bulldogs have won seven in a row, but they have done so in convincing fashion. Their margin of victory during this stretch is 12 points, not allowing any of their opponents to have hope at winning the game.
Deshon Taylor is the best player on Fresno State’s roster, averaging 18.6 points per game to go along with 2.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. He is shooting very well across every metric, going 47% from the field, 87% from the free throw line, and 40% from beyond the arc.
LINE: -2 Fresno State
I have seen a lot of college basketball ‘experts’ pick the Bulldogs to win by a lot more than the two points they are favored by. I’m going the opposite route, picking the Ducks to not only win with the points, but win the game outright.
