Parry Nickerson Draft Profile

Parry Nickerson Draft Profile

Strengths:

  • Effective from press and off-man coverage
  • Competes hard in coverage
  • Usually plays on an island
  • Ballhawk
  • Highly instinctive and makes plays outside his area
  • Made plays on 28 percent of his targets over last two years
  • Tracks the deep ball like a veteran outfielder
  • Punches above his weight when it’s time to get physical at the catch-point
  • Has burst to close and can carry long speed down the field

Analysis: Parry┬áNickerson is a gritty, undersized cornerback who possesses some of the more impressive ball skills in this year’s draft. His lack of size and length will likely force him into the slot where his athletic ability and technique should allow him to make his mark. He has a high motor and wants to win every snap. Ballhawk is a great term for Nickerson as his tape is filled with plays on the ball. His instincts are off the charts–owning pass breakups on guys he wasn’t even covering. He has a nose for the football and despite his size will do anything to take the ball away or lay a hit on the ball carrier. Speed is present throughout his coverage. Ran a 4.32 40-time at the NFL Combine. Willing to press and jam at the line despite his size. Beloved in the Tulane locker room.

Weaknesses:

  • Small with a thin frame
  • Aggressive style can get him tossed around when big receivers get physical back
  • Gets grabby when he’s knocked out of position at top of the route
  • Lacks length for optimal recovery from trail position
  • Plays hard but size matchups could be a challenge on NFL level

Analysis: Parry Nickerson lacks the ideal size for the position and will make his mark as a nickel corner in the NFL.┬áNickerson is tough, smart and instinctive, but he needs to prove he can hold up as an NFL tackler. He gives effort on tackle attempts but his technique and size prevent him from making an impact at that part of the game. His aggression is great to see, but it could get him in trouble in the NFL with bigger, more powerful receivers. Can you imagine 180-pound Nickerson getting in Julio Jones’ face attempting to press him? He won’t win many of those battles. His arms are small-ish and that works against him when in trail coverage. All heart in his play, but his size is debilitating at times.
