Strengths:

  • Elite speed
  • Great acceleration
  • 50% of catches went 25+ yards
  • Good body control
  • Special teams

Analysis: Dorsett is the fastest receiver in the draft.  If your team is lacking speed, and you want said team to draft a playmaker; a guy who can take the top off a defense and potentially score every time he touches the ball, Phillip Dorsett is your man.  A raw product that could develop into a weapon, he can be an effective returner his rookie season.  Bottom line, it will depend what type of system Dorsett is drafted into to be able to tell if he will succeed in the NFL.  Dorsett like Tavon Austin, is a physical specimen with rare speed, how has Austin’s career turned out in St. Louis?

Need to improve:

  • Raw
  • Relies completely on speed
  • Route running sloppy
  • Smallish body
  • Inconsistent hands

Analysis: Dorsett was supposed to challenge Chris Johnson’s combine record in the 40 yard dash, but ultimately fell short running a blazing 4.33.  Once drafted, Dorsett will have to commit himself to learning how to be a wide receiver, and learning a NFL playbook.  Speed will only get him so far at the next level, crisp routes and sound technique can make him into a dynamic threat.

Round prediction: 3rd round
