Phillip Lindsay Draft Profile

Phillip Lindsay draft profile

Strengths:

  • Worth ethic
  • Thick, compact frame
  • Leadership
  • Unlimited motor
  • Instinctive runner
  • Fearless in pass protection
  • Downhill runner
  • Doesn’t shy away from contact
  • Solid receiver

Analysis: Phillip Lindsay is my favorite running back to watch in this draft class. The way he plays the game of football is electric, borderline insane and all out effort on every play. Lindsay has a compact, thick frame packed with muscle.¬†Nicknamed “Tasmanian Devil” for boundless energy and playing style. Feet move like beaters of a hand mixer. Goes from patient to urgent instantly as a runner. Lindsay loves football and plays with tremendous heart. Uses committed, downhill burst. Rarely slows into contact. He was the leader of the Colorado team and was well-respected by teammates, coaches and fans.¬†Pops right up after monster hits. Runs with timing and instincts. Works to keep pads squared. Steadies himself through contact and continues rolling. Has lower body power to drive through leg grabbers. Lindsay will do whatever it takes in pass protection to keep his quarterback upright. Over his time with the Buffaloes he caught 117 passes for 1,084 yards and three scores–he is a more than capable receiver.

Weaknesses:

  • Lacks ideal size
  • Can be classified as “maniac running style”
  • Not as elusive as you believe
  • Has a lot of mileage (545 carries last two seasons)

Analysis: Part of what I love about Phillip Lindsay’s game is his running style–it’s downright scary at times. Scouts may not agree with me, as they view his running style as all over the place. His frenetic pace features flailing arms and excessive upper body movement. Not always as shifty as his movements would lead you to believe. He lacks the ideal size you look for in a featured back. His aggressive running style combined with 545 carries over last two years has seen Lindsay take plenty of punishment.

Bottom Line: Phillip Lindsay is the sleeper running back of this draft class. Whichever team drafts the ‘Tasmanian Devil’ will be getting a future starter in the league for a Day 3 pick. One of the best value picks in the draft.
