Pistons vs Hornets Preview
The Detroit Pistons take their four-game winning streak on the road tonight against the Charlotte Hornets.
Detroit just wrapped up four games at the Palace with a 4-0 record to show. Tonight will be a night for them to prove that they can fight for a playoff spot in the East. The Pistons are currently 8-2 when playing in Detroit, but hold a 4-7 record when on the road. Another issue the Pistons have run into is that five of their nine losses have been to teams with a below .500 record.
Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson continue to prove to be the building blocks for this team.
Drummond has posted 19 double-doubles in 21 games. He always gives this team a chance to win, however, the Pistons have lost seven of their nine games when Drummond has shot below 50 percent from the field. In their nine losses, Drummond has scored less than 20 points in seven of those games. To put it all together, six of those nine losses include games Drummond shot below 50 percent and did not score 20 points. As long as the big man is getting his touches inside and converting them, the Pistons have a very high chance of winning any given night.
Likewise, the Pistons need Reggie Jackson to be on his game. In those nine losses, Jackson scored 20 points or less and shot below 50 percent in each game.
The Pistons are a top team when these two play at the top of their game. They are a pretty good team when on of them is on, but if both of them are off on a night, the Pistons do not stand a chance at winning.
On the flip side, the Hornets are 11-9 this season, and 8-3 at home. Those losses have come at the hands of the Cavaliers, Hawks, and Warriors. They will look to continue their home court dominance, but will have to do so without Kemba Walker who will likely be out due to illness.
This will require Nicholas Batum to be even better than he has been so far this year. He is averaging a career high 17.2 points per game, which is almost twice what he in 71 games last season.
Al Jefferson and Jeremy Lin will also have to add major contributions both offensively and defensively. Both of them have tough matchups on the other side of the ball in Drummond and Jackson.
In the end tonight’s game will come down to if the Hornets can control Drummond and Jackson. Unfortunately for them, it just doesn’t seem possible to stop both of them.
