Predicting the 2018 AdvoCare Invitational
If you haven’t been following MFST, then you have been missing out on some great early season college basketball coverage.
That includes this Thanksgiving week as we are sending two guys (myself and Brandon Reid) to cover the AdvoCare Invitational in sunny Orlando, Florida.
I already predicted this matchup in a ful-length article here. Ultimately the Wildcats will be too much for the Golden Griffins.
Oklahoma State vs Memphis
MFST’s Brandon Reid will be rooting for his hometown Memphis Tigers, and I do believe they are the more talented team—Penny Hardaway is going to have his Tigers advancing in the NCAA Tornament in no time. This time however, I think we both want to see a Canisius vs Memphis second round matchup—but it will be in the loser’s bracket.
Winner: Oklahoma State
Charleston vs LSU
Charleston was a Tournament team a season ago and bring back a lot of talent—but no one will match Naz Reid and his ability to do damage in the paint.
UAB vs Florida State
Florida State is my favorite to win the entire Invitational—they are that good.
Winner: Florida State
2nd Round-Winners Bracket
Villanova vs Oklahoma State
Villanova is going to use this Tournament to get back into their winning ways—they handle the Cowboys en route to a championship showdown between the winner of LSU vs FSU.
LSU vs Florida State
LSU may have the most dominant player in the tourney in Naz Reid, but FSU is the most complete team. From Trent Forrest to Terrance Mann to PJ Savoy, there is no slowing down this Seminoles squad.
2nd Round-Losers Bracket
Canisius vs Memphis
A showdown the MFST community is hoping for—the Tigers have more overall talent than the Griffs, but with two potential NBA players on the roster, Canisius will give Penny Hardaway and his Memphis-coached team a run for their money.
Charleston vs UAB
Charleston should be able to handle the Blazers in the paint and advance to the ‘losers bracket’ championship game.
Villanova vs Florida State
Villanova gets to the championship with what some may call ‘an easy road’ beating Canisius and Oklahoma State—but this is exactly what the Wildcats needed—a confidence boost.
That confidence will end when they play the Seminoles who will be too much for Nova to handle.
Winner and Champion: Florida State
3rd Place Game
Oklahoma State vs LSU
Oklahoma State will matchup well with the Tigers as both teams possess solid frontcourt power. Who will make their long-range shots will be the winner.
5th Place game
Memphis vs Charleston
Memphis will get enough from their senior leaders and talented freshman to fire past Charleston.
7th Place Game
Canisius vs UAB
Canisius has been struggling with their field goal and three-point percentage to start the season. After two more losses, they finally find their stroke ending the AdvoCare Invitational with a victory.
