Premier League Preview

It’s that time of year again. With the Premier League season looming invitingly on the horizon I take part in the second annual yearly predictor with my good friend and fellow red Tony Holland.

While disagreeing last season, Tony proposed that I should write out my full predictions and he would write out his and we would see who was closer. I did so and he won. He also picked the arbitrary scoring pattern – not that I’m bitter.

In all seriousness though, it has given me yet another reason – as if one were needed – to look forward to the start of the new season. It’s a tradition, one that I hope to carry on for a long time with my friend.

Another thing it helps to do is clear the mind. Football by its very nature invites you to be tribal and therefore unrealistic or bias. It’s amazing what wanting to beat a mate at something will do for the clarity of your opinion.

Also, this year I feel I’ve read more about other teams. I think I’m in a position to make a more informed opinion (for the most part) taking in to account not just last year’s eye test but the new additions and more so than ever somewhat of a statistical take.

I don’t usually write down my thoughts, I just present my list and he his but this year I thought, why not eh?
