The Oakland Raiders have signed former San Francisco 49er Aldon Smith to a one-year deal according to reports. This move is quite surprising considering the discipline Smith is bound to face after being arrested in the offseason on DUI and hit-and-run charges. He was previously suspended nine games due to other DUI charges. He even spent time in rehab admitting to alcohol issues.

If he plays at all in 2015, he could provide the Raiders with a formidable option opposite young star Khalil Mack, who has already proven to be an All-Pro linebacker. With Jack Del Rio as head coach, he could prove to be the perfect coach to mentor Aldon Smith, as he played the same position in the NFL and is known as one of the most respected defensive minds in the game. Del Rio holds the respect of his players and knows how to lead by example. Here’s hoping Aldon can turn his life around and excel on the football field for a team that desperately needs it.
