The Red Sox and infielder Eduardo Nunez agreed to a deal Thursday night which will bring the 30-year-old back to Boston where he spent the end of last season. In 38 regular season games with the team, Nunez hit .321 with 8 home runs and 27 RBIs. Late last season, Nunez had a knee issue that sidelined him and eventually led to him being shut down after he re-injured  himself in the postseason.

Nunez still needs to pass a physical to complete the deal, but if all goes well, Nunez will be of great value to the Red Sox as they are expected to be without starting second baseman Dustin Pedroia for a at least a few months. Nunez’s defensive versatility will also be a great asset as he spent time at 2B, 3B, and SS for Boston last season. Nunez may not be the big bat that fans have been wanting the team to sign all offseason, but given his ability to play multiple positions and the hole at second base, this was a very good addition.
