The Cincinnati Reds have swung a three-team trade involving the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. The deal sends All-Star third baseman Todd Frazier to the Chicago White Sox along with catcher Trent Rosencrans. The Reds will receive Dodger prospects, IF Jose Peraza, OF Scott Schebler and IF Brandon Dixon. Lastly, the Dodgers will receive P Frankie Montas, 2B Micah Johnson, and OF Trayce Thompson.

Frazier, 28, hit .255/.309/.498 along with 35 homers and 89 runs batted in for the Reds. Frazier enjoyed a career year, as he was a hometown favorite in Cincinnati where the 2015-All Star game was held, as well winning the Home Run Derby. Reds have been shopping their entire roster as they are in full rebuild mode after coming off a disappointing season, finishing the year with a 64-98 record. Therefore, the Reds were smart to send Frazier for a number of prospects to strengthen their team and continue building for the future. The Reds also free themselves of Frazier who is arbitration eligible and will hit free agency in 2017, where he would be out of the Red’s price range.

Frazier will bolster a White Sox’s offense that will form a dangerous 3-4 combo with 1B Jose Abreu who hit .290, 30 home runs and 101 runs batted without much protection. Watch out for the White Sox, as this deal makes them a dark-horse contender, with their offense along with their young rotation that starts with SPs Chris Sale and Jose Quintana.

The Dodgers come away with a number of young prospects with MLB experience. One is P Frankie Montas, 22, a top-three prospect in the White Sox organization, as well as appearing in seven games for the big league club, two of which were starts. Montas went 0-2 with a 4.80 ERA in which he pitched 15 innings. The Dodgers also received 2B Micah Johnson, who’ll turn 26 on the Dec. 18 and Trayce Thompson, 24, (Klay’s brother) who impressed in his short stint batting .295 and smashing 5 homers.
