The Miami Marlins season keeps getting more disastrous as OF slugger Giancarlo Stanton has reportedly broken a bone in his left hand. Exact details are unknown, but Stanton is expected to undergo further tests today. The injury likely happened during his sixth inning at-bat against Dodgers starter Brett Anderson. After a swing-and-miss by Stanton he can be seen shaking his hand in visible pain, but stayed in the game, eventually striking out in that at-bat.

Stanton was quoted after the game saying, “It’s just pain where I grip the bat,” Stanton said. “I think it just kind of got worse and worse.” Stanton who continued to play after the sixth inning, struck out again in the ninth. One can wonder, did staying in the contest make his injury worse?

Here are both of Stanton’s at-bats from last night in which you can see the pain on his face after the swings.

The Marlins are currently 30-45, sitting in fourth place in the AL East, despite the season having many games left, they do not have much hope for making a playoff run, especially with their best player sidelined. Morale was high in South Florida with Jose Fernandez on track to return to the club shortly and the Marlins trying to make a push in the NL. Now, with the All-Star Game closing in, the fans will likely not get the chance to see Giancarlo crush homers in the derby, or partake in the game itself. Stay tuned to MFST as we will relay new information about the injury.
