In 2014, the Houston Texans selected defensive end and freak athlete Jadeveon Clowney first overall in the NFL Draft. Coming into last season with high expectations, Clowney managed to play in only four games recording zero sacks, before being placed on injured reserve undergoing micro fracture surgery on his knee. Many top-flight athletes fail to regain their form after that type of injury, one of the prime examples former first overall pick Greg Oden in the NBA.

So hearing reports from Deepi Sidhu of HoustonTexans.com saying Clowney is on track to play week one is somewhat surprising. Sidhu spoke with Texans head coach Bill O’Brien who had this to say on the former first overall pick, “I think he’s gonna be there for the opening game against Kansas City,” O’Brien said. “I think he’s going to make it back, and I’m really looking forward to that. He’s working very hard to get back.”

If he is ready to play week one the Texans defensive line will look to turn into the dominant force most experts were projecting last season. As training camp nears and preseason games begin to be played, we will update you on Clowney’s progress.
