Report: James Paxton close to returning to the mound
James Paxton has been on the IL since May 5, and was expected to miss three weeks. Well, yesterday the three-week time frame came and went and the left-hander was still sitting on the injured list. However, there is positive news on the horizon.
According to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic, Paxton could return to the mound as soon as Wednesday….
James Paxton says he threw a bullpen yesterday, and his knee feels “the best that it’s felt” since going on the IL. He described it as similar to a bruise, and says he will meet with a doctor today to try to get cleared for a start Weds. Just looking for it not to get worse.

Via Adler, Paxton went on to say, “I feel like I’m ready.” He is comfortable pitching through some discomfort for now as long as he’s not putting himself further at risk.
This is positive news for the Yankees and his fantasy owners alike.
In seven starts this season, Paxton owns a 3-2 record with a 3.11 ERA across 37.2 innings. He will help bring stability back to the Yankees rotation who recently lost C.C. Sabathia to an IL stint and has been without Luis Severino and Jordan Montgomery all season (Severino could return after the All-Star break).
