Rice will play the first of two straight games against Charlotte to close the regular season when it goes on the road for the final time this year to face the 49ers this Wednesday, Mar. 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be streamed live by CUSAtv. Charlotte enters the game with a 7-20 record overall and 4-12 in Conference USA. The 49ers have dropped eight of their last 10 games, but defeated UTEP on Sunday, 68-58.
Rice is 12-17 overall and 7-9 in Conference USA. The Owls are looking for their third consecutive victory after defeating Middle Tennessee on Sunday, 67-61. The team has four players averaging at least nine points, led by freshman guard Chris Mullins with 12.2 points. He also leads the team in steals with 1.3 per game while tying for the lead with 2.7 assists.
Jon Davis is the man to watch for the 49ers– he is second in Conference USA in scoring at 21.2 points per game and second in free throw percentage at 86.6 percent, while ranking eighth in assists at 3.6 per game. Davis scored his 2000th career point when he connected on a free throw in the first half of the Old Dominion game (2/16). He is the fifth player in Charlotte 49ers history to score 2,000 career points. He also is the fifth player who has played their entire career in Conference USA to score 2,000 points in the league’s history.
Wednesday’s game marks the 11th meeting and the second this season between Charlotte and Rice, who leads the all-time series 6-4. Rice defeated Charlotte, 65-61, in their first meeting this season, January 31, 2019 in Halton Arena. Davis scored 28 points. Martin scored 11 points. Supica scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the game.
