Rider vs Canisius Live Game Notes

Rider vs Canisius
(Matthew O’Haren-USA TODAY Sports)

Preview and Prediction

As I am for all Canisius home basketball games, I will be live covering all the action between two of the MAAC’s best teams.

The crowd is thin tonight, but slowly starting to pile in with five minutes before tip-off.

Both teams are undefeated in conference play, one will leave tonight with their first loss.

I said in my preview of the game that the Griffs would win if Takal Molson and Isaiah Reese score 20+ points each. Molson starts the game with a three-pointer.

And we have a Jalanni White sighting, he drives the lane draws the foul and sinks a layup for an and-one–one he did not convert. Canisius leads 7-4 with 18:12 to play.

Rider guard Stevie Jordan follows up White’s and-one with one of his own–also failing to convert.

Both teams are playing loose defensively and it’s making for a fast-paced offensive game. Through five minutes the Broncs have a 13-12 lead. Each team is shooting over 50 percent from the field and there have been eight total assist between the teams on 11 made shots.

After missing his first three shots all within five feet, Reese sinks a three-pointer to tie the game at 15.

Canisius freshman Jordan Henderson has come off the bench and instantly made an impact. Dishing a beautiful assist to Marcale Lotts, he followed that up with a corner-three giving the Griffs a 20-15 lead with 11:36 to play.

And we have a four-point play converted by Isaiah Reese. The Canisius crowd is lively after that and the Griffs have their largest lead, 24-17.

Another three-pointer, this time off of another assist by Henderson, who created the possession by stealing the ball from Jordan Allen. Double-digit lead for Canisius, 27-17.

The difference in this game right now is three-point shooting. The Griffs are shooting 71 percent from beyond the arc and Rider is at 14 percent—quite the disparity.

We have a Dimencio Vaughn sighting! Arguably Rider’s best player has missed the previous four games with an injured ankle has checked into the game at the nine-minute mark. No telling how healthy he is, but his appearance on the court is a boost to the Broncs no doubt.
