September 14th is the day Ryan Mathews sprained his MCL against the Seahawks.  Even though it has been a little over a month, don’t expect to see Mathews anytime soon.  The Chargers leading rusher last season has yet to even test out his injured knee.  Mathews has been quoted as saying, “Whenever they want me to run, I’ll start running” when referring to team doctors.  “It’s all in their hands.”

With the Chargers winning games without him, the medical staff–along with the coaches are in no rush to get the injury prone back on the field.  I suspect we will see Mathews again, after San Diego has their week ten bye week.  That would be exactly a month from today November 16th.  Even with the Chargers playing two out of the next three games against divisional opponents, they would prefer to have a healthy Ryan Mathews come playoff time.  Until then, rookie running back Branden Oliver will continue to see the majority of the carries, and should be a fantasy must own by now.
