(USA TODAY Sports)

Strengths:

  • Size
  • Strong lower half
  • Decisive
  • Downhill runner, does not dance
  • Breaks tackles
  • Lowers pads
  • Solid in pass protection

Weaknesses:

  • Needs more patience
  • Loves contact too much
  • Not a receiving back
  • Below average burst to second level
  • Vision is thin

Analysis: Armstead is a fun player to watch on tape–he runs north-south and does not shy away from contact. He is a short-yardage beast always falling forward and willing to do whatever it takes to gain those extra couple of yards. He is not the most patient runner, waiting to find a crease–rather making his own crease by lowering his pads. Armstead will be a two-down back in the NFL–although he can handle pass protection duties, but lacks receiving abilities. A solid pick on Day 3 will be able to be a guy who can play early in his career.

Size: 5’11 220lbs

Draft Grade: 4th round

NFL Comparison: Alex Collins

Draft Projection: Early Day 3
