Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane will miss 4-6 weeks with an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his left knee, Sabres coach Dan Bylsma said Monday.

Kane did not make it through Saturday’s game against the Devils, leaving in the third period due to the injury to his knee. Kane was injured at 10:25 in the third, after a check along the boards by Devils defenseman David Schlemko. Kane was down on the ice briefly and needed assistance to the locker room.

“I thought I just rubbed him out,” Schlemko said. “I talked to the ref after and he said it looked like our legs just kind of locked. Looked like he grabbed his knee. Hopefully he’s all right.”

In eight games this season Kane has one goal and two assists. At practice Monday, Nicolas Deslauriers skated in Kane’s spot at left wing alongside center Ryan O’Reilly and right wing Tyler Ennis.

Forward Tim Schaller was recalled from Rochester of the American Hockey League on Monday and rotated on the fourth line with Marcus Foligno, David Legwand and Jamie McGinn.
