Seminole switch: Golson back as Florida State’s starter
Florida State will turn back to quarterback Everett Golson for Saturday’s game against NC State after he missed the last two weeks due to injury.
Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher named Golson the starter Thursday saying, “We’re gonna start Everett, he had a real good week of practice. I liked what he did.”. Redshirt junior Sean Maguire started the last two weeks and went 1-1 but lost to No. 1 Clemson last week. Golson, a senior, is 6-1 as the Seminoles’ starter.
Golson suffered a concussion in the Oct. 24 loss to Georgia Tech, and he missed the following game against Syracuse despite passing the concussion protocol. Maguire accumulated 512 passing yards with 3 TD’s and 1 INT in his two games as the Seminoles starter, but failed to record a touchdown against the top ranked Tigers last week.
“This is no knock on Sean,” Fisher said. “Were there some plays he could’ve made [against Clemson]? Yes. Were there [missed] plays in the Georgia Tech game? But it wasn’t just them. We all could have made plays.
In seven starts, Golson has thrown for 1,659 yards and 11 touchdowns to only one interception. The former Notre Dame QB took the Fighting Irish to the National Championship game in 2013 but fell to Alabama.
The Seminoles host NC State at 12:30pm today, you can catch the broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.
