Shane Vereen has reportedly signed a four-year contract worth north of $16 million¬†with the New York Giants. The former New England Patriot will be used as the change-of-pace back in the Giants offensive system, spelling Rashad Jennings. Vereen is a solid acquisition for the G-Men, as Eli Manning needed a reliable pass-catching option out of the backfield. Jennings and last year’s fourth round draft pick Andre Williams do not scare opposing defenses coming out of the backfield, in fact Eli Manning did not throw a touchdown pass to any running back in 2014. Vereen caught 70 passes alone in 2014, including the regular and post-season for the Super Bowl champion Patriots.

The Giants recently restructured linebacker’s Jon Beason to create over $3 million in cap space, giving them about $13 million to play with throughout the off-season, so do not expect too many splashy signings. Depth signings, and solid draft picks will bring the New York Giants back to the post-season in 2015.
