The Seattle Mariners are “trying hard” to find a team willing to take on veteran outfielder/DH Mark Trumbo according sources. Trumbo who is nearing age 30, will be owed roughly $9.1 million in his final arbitration eligible season. Trumbo does not hit for average but is considered one of the leagues best power-hitters, despite his lack of success from early on in his career.
Considering his defensive limitations and higher price tag, a trade partner might be hard to find, but it will depend on what GM Jerry DiPoto expects to receive in return.
Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com says the Orioles are the leader in the clubhouse for Trumbo as they are not expected to retain Chris Davis or Steve Pearce via free agency . Trumbo would be the type of power hitter they need in the lineup to replace those players numbers.
