South Region: Oklahoma vs Ole Miss Prediction
Oklahoma vs Ole Miss Preview
In this 8 vs 9 matchup we have two teams who are headed in the wrong direction.
Ole Miss has lost four of their last five games, and got bounced out of the SEC Tournament by Alabama. They have dropped a ridiculous ten of their last 16 games.
Oklahoma isn’t much better. They finished seventh in the Big 12 and went 4-8 in their final 12 games, which included an embarrassing loss in the Big 12 Tournament to a bad West Virginia team.
Behind the experienced backcourt duo of Breein Tyree and Terrence Davis, the Rebels have one of the most important pieces in place for a deep tournament run. Tyree and Davis have been prone to going cold on occasion and are both making their March Madness debuts but still remain one of the more intriguing duos to watch.
They also have a great coach in Kermit Davis, who is in his first year at the helm of the program.
Oklahoma lacks the guard play that Ole Miss brings to the table, they have a slightly stronger frontcourt that should help them control the tempo of the game. The Sooners should out-rebound the Rebels with ease and control the paint.
Outside of the impressive guards Ole Miss has, Bruce Stevens is the lone frontcourt player who can make a positive impact on this game. At 6’8 he has the size to bang down low with the Sooners talented forwards. He shoots more than 50 percent from the floor and will need to have a career night on the glass if Ole Miss is going to advance.
Senior guard Christian James is the one member of the Sooners backcourt who can keep up with the play of the Rebels guards. He averages a team-high 14.4 points and pulls down 6.3 rebounds per night. He’s sneaky good on the defensive end averaging 1.2 steals per contest.
