Supergirl flew back onto our screens last week with a solid season opener with the introduction of Superman, but it didn’t stop there. This episode continued on from the end of the previous episode with Project CADMUS having “worked on” Corben, giving him Kryptonite-based powers, making him a much larger threat than before.

Meanwhile, Supergirl and Superman were happily saving National City together to the dismay of Hank. Before they can celebrate for too long, the stereotypical British villain Corben (now named Metallo) has lured them into fighting him. Kara and Clark are easily overpowered by Corben until Superman catches him from behind to ensure they live another day.

Corben isn’t the only problem facing Kara though as she tries to start her new job as a reporter. The new boss, with the very fitting name of Snapper, gives her a hard time by even refusing to hire her, with Kara’s poor comebacks a highlight of the scene. When Kara goes to Cat for help, she drops the bombshell that she is leaving the city, for who knows how long because she has done all she can with the company. This eventually inspires Kara to stand up to her boss and finally get hired as the reporter she wants to be (sadly she still doesn’t get a chair).

Back to DEO they still have problems with Metallo, only now there is two of them. Metropolis ends up with some serious damage thanks to Metallo #2 being left in an unguarded Metropolis. The DEO know that there must be a mole to have stolen the supply of Kryptonite that CADMUS possesses. Alex figures out who the mole is with the help of Winn, whom provides a lot of comical one liners throughout the episode. Winn eventually gets around to building his anti-kryptonite suit pieces so Kara and Clark can fly off into battle. With the help of Hank and Alex the Metallos are defeated and Supergirl sends a warning to CADMUS that she will stop them. That’s not the end of the action though as the mystery man in the coma wakes up and grabs Kara by the neck, as Clark arrives back in Metropolis.

This was another fun episode of Supergirl and it was great to see Kara and Clark team up yet again. The introduction of Superman has been a real high point for the show, however it was slightly disappointing to see him threaten to murder Metallo if he moved. Not a very hero-like statement to me. He is now back in Metropolis so Supergirl will take sole center role again, but the show have done an incredible job of balancing the characters and making sure the show didn’t become too much “Superman” than “Supergirl”.

Winn also played a great role, popping up throughout the episode with not only funny comments, but played a vital role in the episode by designing the kryptonite-proof shields for Kara and Clark, plus he helped to find the mole. He has been one of my favorite characters since the show began and this episode only helps my view. Winn’s scenes with Superman were especially great to see, as he clearly idolizes him.

The plot is slowly building up with various storylines taking place at once, but this episode doesn’t help us a lot in answering our questions. This only builds up the anticipation for future episode though such as what has happened to Alex’s dad?  Who is the man in the coma? Why did he attack Supergirl? Who is behind  CADMUS?

We did learn that  CADMUS wants to destroy aliens but not much more was shed on the matter. It was nice to see the conflict between Hank and Clark over kryptonite resolved but I would be lying if I said I didn’t really want to see them fight. Martian Manhunter vs Superman. Now that would be an epic fight.

Although the plot of the episode did feel a bit predictable, it  was an enjoyable second episode and I look forward to what is to come.
