Time seems to be flying as we are already on our fourth episode of the season. I’ve been surprised and impressed with the improvement of Supergirl so far and this episode keeps up this view with multiple storylines going on in “Survivors”. Fasten your seat belts as we have a lot to cover.

What’s the first rule of alien fight club? You don’t talk about alien fight club. Maybe someone should tell that to whoever writes the synopsis for these shows. I mean seriously, it’s the first rule. Anyway you may have guessed what this episode is about. There’s an alien fight club going on which Supergirl not only has to try to prevent but also write about as Kara.

Hank tries to talk and “merge” with M’gann but she doesn’t seem very interested and leaves. After Alex and Maggie (Alex definitely wants to be more than crime-fighting partners) track down a kidnapped alien to a fight club run by Roulette, who is forcing aliens to fight each other for entertainment for National City’s richest, plus it is revealed that Miss Martian fights there. We knew something was up. Supergirl is attacked by an alien named Draaga and all aliens and people run away. Hank confronts Miss Martian who wants to move on from Mars before he is kidnapped by Roulette. The two Green Martians fight, well technically J’onn never even tries to fight, before Supergirl and the DEO bust in, break up the fight, thanks to Lena Luther who gives them the location, defeat¬†Draaga and arrest Roulette by convincing the aliens not to fight each other. However Roulette is released not even two minutes later. Helps to have friends in higher places I guess.

Meanwhile Mon-el has to stay at the DEO. I’m liking his addition to the show. He convinces Winn to let him out by playing on his vanity and they hit the town together. Winn is surprisingly impressive when he is drunk. By the end of the episode Supergirl is going to train Mon-El. With the Kara side of things, She is trying to get a story published. Snapper is at his best, ripping into everything she does wrong before Kara puts together a good enough story (but needs to be rewritten) using Supergirl as a source which I’m surprised she didn’t think of before. Oh, and Miss Martian isn’t really a Green Martian. Turns out it is a white Martian in disguise. A big no-no for J’onn when he finds out, this guy has no luck.

Supergirl

I’m going to start this review with the side stories which I am loving. Surely I’m not the only one who loves Snapper’s, well, snappiness. He is so blunt which makes his character great. Ian Gomez looks and sounds the part to me and even though it seems mean, when he shuts down Kara he is incredibly entertaining. I would not want him judging my articles otherwise I would never get anything published. ¬†It’s not as if his advice is wrong after all. He knows his journalism.

Now how about Mon-el? Supergirl have been hitting home runs with their new characters this season. Miss Martian, Superman, Snapper and now Mon-El. Winn and Mon-El have a fun chemistry together such as Winn teaching Mon-El English words. One of my favourite scenes of the episode was Mon-El manipulating Winn and then going to a bar with him. He seems to be a genuinely kind character who could be perfect to help Supergirl. I even felt bad when he found out about his home planet.

Lastly, I was surprised at the lack of CADMUS in the episode although I feel like the white Martian at the end could be linked to them. Maybe. No? I’m not looking forward to Hank finding out but is was an unexpected plot twist. I’m a sucker for fight clubs so I enjoyed the storyline for the episode, seeing the Green Martians fight each other was perfect. I said before that I kind of wanted to see a Martian Manhunter and Superman fight but this will certainly suffice. A great cast and a superb episode, only let down by the lack of progression in the CADMUS story.
