Supergirl Recap and Review: Ace Reporter
“Are you grief baking?” Some of the best moments of this show come between Lena and Kara. Kara’s unemployment has gotten old. Lena asks her to accompany her to a huge event featuring Lena’s ex-boyfriend, Jack Spheer. Jack shows off a series of nanobots who can repair wounds on the spot. Kara puts on her reporter hat and ends up getting a lead from someone claiming to have info about Jack. Snapper tries to steal her moment, but Kara holds her own. The whistleblower tells Kara there were no files on the human tests. He ends up getting killed by the nanobots.
Kara/Supergirl gets frustrated because two people end up dying in front of her and she is unable to stop it from happening. She and Mon-El end up creating some shenanigans to find out what is really going in with Jack. Of course it’s nothing good. We get some comedic moments which are fun to see between the two of them. It’s nice to see them do something other than argue or stare at each other.
Guardian is back on the job, with an unexpected third wheel: Lyra. Lyra has a bit of a temper and inability to know when to stop punching. When Lyra gets a little rough with a teenager, it causes a major rift between James and Winn. Winn tells Lyra it’s not going to work having her on the team. Let’s just say Lyra doesn’t take it well. Winn is miserable without Lyra. Eventually, they all find a way to work together. Equilibrium returns.
Kara gathers information and interviews which she hands over to Snapper so he can get the truth out to a larger audience. In the end, Snapper rewards Kara with her job back at Catco. They’ve finally developed a dynamic between these two that may actually be able to work. So far it was so gruff that it had nowhere to go. We got to see a more human side to Snapper and why Cat actually hired him in the first place.
Just when we think Lena will have a moment of possible happiness, it gets destroyed. She has to make a choice between saving Jack or Supergirl. Lena ends up getting hurt yet again. When Kara visits her in her office with a bunch of flowers, Lena tells her she’s afraid of the person she’ll be once she starts to heal a bit. Kara promises to always be her friend and to protect her.
Rhea makes her first appearance with Lena offering her a business proposition. This of course can only lead to no good. Overall there were a lot of developments in this episode which are moving the season in some interesting directions. Looking forward to seeing what comes next.
