Supergirl

We knew it was only a matter of time. Cause, well…she’s Alex. This week’s episode of Supergirl, “Exodus,” was all about Alex being a badass. Did she go a bit crazy and maybe cross a line or two in the process? Maybe. But boy was it fun watching her do it!

After letting Jeremiah escape last week, Alex struggles with believing Jeremiah is still good while the DEO brands him as a hostile. CADMUS begins rounding up aliens in National City under the guise of routine traffic stops. There are no real leads until Winn, James, Lyra, Alex and Maggie end up at the bar to blow off some steam. CADMUS strikes. Badass Alex takes center stage. A huge fight ensues, resulting in a brief appearance by Guardian saving Alex and capturing a CADMUS bad guy, but resulting in the kidnapping of Lyra.

Meanwhile, Kara tries to convince Snapper to run a story on the alien abductions. He refuses without multiple sources. She offers him an exclusive interview with Supergirl. He bites, but even with the sitdown he refuses to publish the story since Supergirl will not reveal her sources. Kara runs into Lena who suggests she take a “citizen’s journalist” approach and publish the story herself. Kara struggles between the idea of possibly losing her job or letting more aliens disappear.

Lena offers to help and digs up some info on an empty warehouse Lex used to run. Her assistant, who is working for Lillian, gets the order to rough up Lena a bit. Lena informs Kara of her discovery as two thugs attack. Supergirl appears and in a very Superman/Lois Lane move, saves Lena from falling off the roof. One of my particularly favorite moves of the episode. Maybe the entire show.

Alex interrogates the CADMUS prisoner with her fists until J’onn pulls her away just before the guy ends up as a giant bloody mess. Jeremiah appears in Alex’s apartment pleading with her to help him save the aliens from CADMUS by stealing an item from the DEO. Just as Alex agrees, J’onn shapeshifts back. He suspends Alex temporarily due to her compromised judgement.

Alex goes rogue with the help of Maggie. Kara sides with J’onn telling Alex to sit this one out. Alex storms CADMUS’ current base and proceeds to take down everyone there. She threatens Lillian. There are bombs. Her special gun. She pilots a spaceship. And best of all we get moments between Alex and Kara that make this show the best thing on television. My heart swells every time the two of them face intense peril. Somehow they manage to find a way out together.

This was yet another exhausting episode. Twists and turns and intrigue. And commentary on the state of America and the press without being overly preachy. Kara faces the consequences of her decision to defy Snapper. And we get the confirmation about Mon-El being the Prince of Daxam. DUH. Terri Hatcher and Kevin Sorbo make their debut as the new villains of National City. Next week, stay tuned for the beginning of the musical crossover!
