Supergirl Season 3 Recap and Review: “The Faithful”
“I am not God. Rao is.” This week’s episode of Supergirl follows a man who was saved when Kara first became Supergirl. He has created a “religion” worshipping Supergirl as a god and based on the words of Krypton’s god Rao, found in a vessel that fell to earth with an artifact containing all of Rao’s teachings.
Kara, James and Wynn attend a meeting of the group and hear from people who have had their lives saved by Supergirl. Danger ensues as followers put themselves in harm’s way, including one man who intentionally sets a fire in order to be saved by Supergirl.
This episode begins an exploration of Kara’s deeper spiritual beliefs, something we haven’t seen before. Watching her see someone else speak Rao’s words allowed the audience to see both her connection to her life on Krypton and the intense separation she still feels. This appears to be the beginning of a deeper soul-searching Kara will explore throughout the season.
Alex does her own soul-searching. After last week’s episode where Maggie tells her she doesn’t see kids in her future, Alex struggles with being with the woman she loves while squashing her own intense desire to be a mom. After moving away from it for a while, the show begins focusing again on the core of the show: Danvers, or the relationship between Kara and Alex. How will Kara and Alex support each other as they try to navigate their changing lives and relationships? Next episode is a big one: Floriana Lima/Maggie’s final episode. It should be a doozy. Til next week!
