Syracuse is more popular than Kentucky in College Basketball?
The NCAA recently released the list of attendance in the game of college basketball for this past season, and the team that recorded a sell-out every game this season is not number one on the list.
Syracuse University leads in total attendance for the second year in a row averaging 23,854 fans per game, while the Kentucky Wildcats, who sold out every home game this season, came in second averaging 23,572. The Carrier Dome holds 30,000, the most in college basketball so the Orange could improve on their numbers, and with Jim Boeheim retiring in three years, I expect the attendance to rise.
Creighton is the first mid-major on the list, coming in sixth place with over 17,000 fans per game. A somewhat surprising team that cracks the top ten is Creighton’s in-state competition, the Nebraska Cornhuskers who finished 10th. The Cornhuskers had a losing season in 2014-15, going 13-18 (5-14) within the Big Ten conference, but the loyal and dedicated Nebraska fans continued to support their team.
The Big Ten conference led all conferences in total attendance for the 39th year in a row; a title they have held since 1976.
