Tebow Time for the Eagles offense in 2015?
Out of all the NFL headlines this offseason one still has some fans puzzled. It’s the one about Tim Tebow being signed by the Philadelphia Eagles. This was just one of the head scratching personnel moves Chip Kelly made that has everyone waiting to see the method to his madness. Everyone thought Tebow was done and had moved on to be a college football analyst. Now he is in training camp taking reps, and will most likely see some playing time this Sunday against Indianapolis in Philly’s preseason opener.
Sam Bradford is the starter no question, but Tebow is competing with Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley for the second or even third spot on the depth chart. When he was signed I gave him no chance to make the opening day roster, and even have a bet going with a family member that might have me flying a Saints logo on my Facebook page during week 1. Tebow’s recent history is on my side but here is something to consider, him, Bradford, and Sanchez are all in the bottom five for lowest quarterback rating in the last five years. The other two are Chad Henne and Geno Smith. Yes, Tebow’s numbers are bad but if the other two guys are almost as bad then he has to have a chance right? Taking into consideration Bradford’s injury history and Sanchez’s inconsistency, I think it is possible that Tebow not only makes the team but could even start at some point in the season. I know, I’m trying to process that too. I am not someone who has rooted against Tim Tebow, I just go by the numbers. In this case it’s the numbers of all four quarterbacks on the roster that have me thinking he has a chance. Just one more thing that makes the preseason interesting.
