Teddy Bridgewater traded to the Saints
Bridges were burned Wednesday afternoon, pun intended. Social media was blowing up when fans learned that the New York Jets no longer needed the services of veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. When they play the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football to open the NFL season, it will be rookie Sam Darnold leading the starting offense.
The Jets are sending Bridgewater, and a 2019 sixth round pick to the New Orleans Saints for a 2019 third round pick in return. This clears up the quarterback situation for the Jets now, as Josh McCown is now the number two option there. The Saints also upgrade their backup quarterback situation, putting Bridgewater over a less-than-serviceable Tom Savage.
It should be a fun and interesting season for both teams to say the least. One is in rebuild mode, and the other team down south is basically Super Bowl or bust vibe at the moment. To rub some salt in the wound of Teddy to fire him up a bit, it’s being reported that he didn’t find out about the trade, until he was on the team bus, and reportedly got his stuff and was left off the bus… ouch!
