‘The Bold Type’ Renewed for two More Seasons
It was announced yesterday that Freeform will be renewing its new summer series The Bold Type for not one, but two more seasons. The show was created by Sarah Watson and stars Katie Stevens, Aisha Dee, and Sutton Brady as three friends balancing work, romance, and life in general. There will be some changes in the future though as it was also announced that Watson will not be returning a showrunner citing creative differences with the network. Instead, Amanda Lasher, who worked on the bold and beloved, but still canceled MTV series Sweet/Vicious, will take the helm. The Bold Type will be her first showrunner position.
After canceling some of its newer series last year, Freeform seems to have found a winner with The Bold Type. Let’s hope Lasher and Freeform’s creative vision will keep the show on fans and critics’ watch list. The show’s first season scored an 8.1/10 star rating on IMDB and a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. The series is inspired by the life of Cosmopolitan Magazine’s former editor in chief, Joanna Coles who is also a producer.
With the renewal, fans will get 20 more episodes of the trio dealing with work, friendships, and relationships along with relevant issues in the lives of young women and professionals. Season one tackled sexual assault, sexuality, and balancing life and work, among other issues. Freeform’s executive VP of programming and developing, Karey Burke, had this to say to The Hollywood Reporter:
“At Freeform, we are committed to delivering shows that celebrate the power and possibility of the female voice. Season one of The Bold Type brought culturally significant stories to the masses that not only entertain, but also empower our viewers to conquer the world — we are excited to continue to champion these incredible women.”
Congratulations to the cast and crew of The Bold Type for two more seasons and best of luck to Lasher in her new position!
