Connor Cook, the quarterback from Michigan State has still not been drafted as Day 3 of the NFL Draft is hours away. To many, that is a shocking revelation. How could a QB with more than 9,000 career passing yards and 71 TD’s at a prestigious football school like Michigan State still be on the board?

Being an NFL quarterback involves more than winning games and throwing touchdowns in college.

Connor Cook has an attitude problem, and it extends beyond the football field. The most glaring factoid is he was never voted as a team captain in any of his four years on campus, something that RARELY happens when you are a quarterback. And it speaks volumes. His teammates, who vote every year on the captains, did not view him as a worthy leader, which is the true definition of a captain. When talking with one NFC scout, he said “It might not seem like a big deal, but when everything you do is under a microscope, this is bigger than a microscope.”

How will he be able to lead grown men at the next level? The answer is simple, right now…he can’t.

NFL scouts see it, so NFL front offices definitely do. One scout was quoted, “How much does he really like ball? How much is he going to work at it? He likes being a celebrity.”

Quarterback’s who are unwilling to put in the work do not succeed in the NFL. Cook has all the physical tools to be a solid quarterback, but his track record in big games is not kind to his resume. Connor Cook failed to rise to the occasion in 2015 Big Ten Championship Game or playoff game against Alabama.

He reportedly bombed interviews with coaches leading up to the draft, and his selfish attitude stuck out. One scout I personally talked to told me he “disrespects the game” and when I asked him to clarify or go into more detail all he said was “Archie Griffin”. It didn’t take more than a google search to figure out what he was talking about.

Cook will be drafted, he’s too talented not to, but all I have to say is buyer beware….
