There was a lot of debate leading up to the NFL Draft, and the Dallas Cowboys ended that a short time ago when they selected Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott.

To me, the pick made little sense as I outline in a previous article many reason why Elliott would be a terrible selection at No.4 overall.¬†However, Elliott is hands-down the best running back in this year’s NFL Draft.

He adds to a bevy of play-makers on the Dallas Cowboys offense, but did they need another one?

The Cowboys have three capable running backs on their roster, while their defense has suffered mightily the last 5+ seasons. Jalen Ramsey, the top defensive player on my big board would have helped shore up the Cowboys secondary that only managed 8 interceptions last year and owned a -22 turnover margin.

Elliott was clearly a Jerry Jones selection, going against previous years when his son Stephen and the other personnel members helped steer Jerry in the right direction (2014 choosing Zach Martin over Johnny Manziel).

To learn more about Elliott I recommend you check out his draft profile and scouting report here. Trust me, it is a lot more glowing that what I am angrily typing now.

As for the Cowboys future draft plans, they will need to address defense with their upcoming picks, not only in the secondary but on the defensive line as well. Stay tuned to My Fantasy Sports Talk for more draft coverage.
