Ezekiel Elliott
(Jerry Lai/USA TODAY Sports)

Ezekiel Elliott was taken fourth overall by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2016 NFL Draft, and if you have followed the site closely, you know I was very much against that idea. That being said, the Cowboys made Elliott their guy and I have little doubt he will succeed running behind that impressive offensive line.

Which brings me to the NFL/Elliott bet every single person should make, whether you love, hate, or know nothing about football. The legal betting site┬áBovada.com has the over/under for Elliott’s rushing yards in 2016 is set at 900. Yes 900.

Start counting your change because this is too good to pass up, and here’s why…

1. There will be no “committee” in Dallas

The Cowboys took Zeke fourth overall and are not going to have him split time with injury-prone Darren McFadden or newly-signed Alfred Morris. Yes, he will be spelled from time-to-time, but Ezekiel Elliott will see no less than 20 touches per game. I like the McFadden/Morris duo, but they are the old beater car you drive when no one is looking. Elliott is the shiny new car that you show off, and in Dallas everyone is looking.

2. Ezekiel Elliot averaged 6.7 yards per carry at Ohio State

Even if Dallas doesn’t want to overuse Elliott as a rookie and he averages 20 touches per game, let’s say five of those touches are receptions, so he would have 15 carries per game. After a little math, that equals 240 carries. No, Elliott will not be averaging 6.7 yards per carry, but I’d say there is zero chance he will average less than four. So take those 240 carries multiplied by four and you have 960 yards. Boom, you win the bet.

3. A multitude of rookie backs have hit the 900 yard milestone, and they weren’t even good

Names like Todd Gurley, Zac Stacey, LeGarrette Blount, Doug Martin and Trent Richardson accomplished that feat as a rookie. Yes, Trent Richardson….need I continue? Make that bet.

While I am not condoning spending your life savings on this bet, if you have some money to “invest”, this is one investment that can’t go wrong. If it does, you can send hate mail to Jerry Jones in Fort Worth, Texas.
