attack on gorilla city

It’s that time of year again, time for the annual Flash two parter, and this week we took a trip to Gorilla City on Earth-2. Spoilers for The Flash follow.

So around this time last year, we got our first look into Earth-2 and ‘Welcome to Earth-2’ could possibly be my favorite episode of The Flash, it was insanely fun, so naturally I had pretty high expectations. So from this episode definitely wasn’t as good as I’d hoped but that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a good episode, it was, just not as good as I’d hoped. I actually kind of wish that they had promoted this episode as only one because this episode is actually fairly self-contained besides the last-minute or so and it would’ve been a much bigger surprise at the end.

The plot for the episode is that Barry, Caitlin, Cisco and Julian all travel to Gorilla City on Earth-2 in order to save Harry, this of course was orchestrated by Gorilla Grodd as revenge for The Flash having trapped him in Gorilla City last season. The gorillas here live under the rule of Solovar and Grodd has had enough, so he gets Barry to fight Solovar and beat him so that Grodd becomes the ruler of Gorilla City and thus he can order an attack on the Central City of Earth-1.

The fight between Barry and Solovar was one of the highlights of the episode, the CGI was a bit off but honestly for a TV show on the CW, the CGI was better than I expected. Barry got his ass kicked for most of the fight but he successfully beat Solovar by going full Reverse Flash mode, this was really cool and shows that Team Flash aren’t afraid to use their enemies tactics against them, it was funny seeing Cisco be the one to give him the tip though with versions of him having been killed twice by this move before.

I liked Julian in the beginning of this episode, the second he found out about the teams trip to an alternate dimension, he was all in and seeing him show up in Indiana Jones clothes was pretty fun. I really hope Julian stays good this season and while he still can be a bit cold towards the other members a lot of the time, I hope he stays with them.

The secondary plot of the episode involved Wally and Jesse and mostly was about their growing love for each other. I did have a little nerd freak out though when Jesse and Wally stood beside each other as Kid Flash and Jesse Quick and I really hope we get a scene next week that involves the three speedsters standing together to face Grodd’s gorilla army.

H.R. once again proved to be my favorite part of the episode, he’s so great. I see a lot of people getting kind of bored of all the different kinds of Wells but I’m all for them, his scenes are always the funniest parts if the episode in my opinion. At the end of the episode when he’s talking to Jesse about how she’s staying on Earth-1 and he then proceeds to say that Harry’s going to be so pissed could possibly be my favorite H.R. scene yet.

I’m excited for next week’s episode as Gypsy is brought back into the fold (I kind of hoped she would be) and I’m excited to hopefully see the three speedsters fight Grodd. I feel like I’m being a bit too harsh on The Flash this year but it’s just because I’m comparing it to the previous two seasons, I still love the show though and I’m having a great time.

THE VERDICT

The Flash wasn’t as good as I hoped but still gave us a good episode that gets us excited for the next
