The Flash ‘I Know Who You Are’ Review and Recap
We finally have our answer on who Savitar is and while it took us twenty episodes, a lot of unnecessary cliffhangers and annoying plot points to get there, I’m happy with the end result. Spoilers for The Flash from this point on.
Honestly I think that this episode is one of my favorites of the season, while I wouldn’t put it on the level of ‘Duet’ or The Flash portion of ‘Invasion!’ it was still an intense and exciting episode. We knew this entire episode that we were going to finally find out who Savitar is so at first I was kind of annoyed when I realized that we wouldn’t find out till the final moments but as the episode went on I kind of accepted the fact that it was all leading up to the reveal. One thing that did not feel right in this episode however was the unnecessary inclusion of the Joe-Cecile plotline, I understand that they haven’t touched on it in a while but they really shouldn’t have included it in this episode however.
On the subject of things that felt off, this entire episode felt incredibly different and I mean that in a good way. We had some very cool scenes like Barry creating fire with his fingers and using his surroundings, we had some cool new shots unlike what we’ve seen before and overall this episode felt different, but I like it and think they should continue using this style in future episodes, especially the ‘Barry using his surroundings to his advantage’ style scene, that was one of my favorite Barry scenes yet.
This episode was all about finding the Dr. Tracy Brand who in the future timeline would be responsible for creating the prison that traps Savitar. Tracy is a new character played by Anne Dudek. Barry can’t help but start screwing with the timeline and he recruits Tracy to create the trap now because of how close they are to the day Iris will die. After a lot of convincing, learning about the Speed-Force and flirting with H.R. she discovers how she can create Savitar’s prison and it looks like she’ll be incredibly important in the final three episodes of the season.
Meanwhile during all of this, Caitlin is wreaking havoc and attempting to stop Dr. Brand before she can create the prison. This all led to some pretty emotional scenes in which Cisco, Barry and to a lesser extent Julian try to confront her and bring Caitlin back into the light and away from her Killer Frost side. Every time I see Caitlin battle Cisco I get a little worried thinking this could be the last time we see Vibe because of what we know in the future. I’d hate if Cisco lost the use of his hands but being honest, it could lead to a pretty interesting storyline. By the end of this episode it looks like we may possibly get the good side of Caitlin back with a cure that Julian made, but with how much they’ve been setting up Killer Frost since the beginning, I don’t know how effective it’ll be.
Now onto the reveal that Savitar is future Barry and I just want to say thank you to the writers for keeping it as Barry. He is the only character that would’ve made sense for the reveal to be, yes future Barry was the most obvious and I don’t know why they waited so long to reveal it because now we’ll probably get very limited screen time with him but I’m still happy they kept it as him. Ronnie wouldn’t make sense because why would he want to fight Team Flash, Eddie also wouldn’t make sense because why would Caitlin be so quick to side with him and if it was Jay Garrick then I probably would have just given up on this show.
By the way, how great was Tom Cavanagh as H.R. in this episode, he was easily my favorite character in this one as he was just so fun and entertaining to watch. Also shout out to Jitters for naming one of their coffees after a terrorist speedster who killed an entire swat team in their cafe last year, good guy Zoom.
Overall I really enjoyed this episode and the reveal has definitely got me excited for the final episodes, I just hope that we get an episode related to future Barry with flashbacks showing how he fell from grace, like they did with Zoom last year.
8.8/10 The Flash gave one of their best of the season has Savitar’s identity has been revealed.
