The Flash ZOOM Reveal Breakdown
After months of speculation and theories, THE FLASH finally revealed the long awaited identity of Season 2 big bad ZOOM. WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!
At the end of this week’s episode, episode 15, we finally see Zoom taking off his mask revealing the face of..Jay Garrick? Hold on, but didn’t we see Zoom kill Jay Garrick last episode and even drop his dead body on the floor? Well, this is where it gets confusing. We saw the face of Jay Garrick, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it is the Jay Garrick we’ve known all season. The Flash has been exploring the multi-verse and doppelgangers all season so it’s not much of a surprise that Zoom is a version of a character we already know, but how could he be the Earth-2 doppelganger of an Earth-2 character? There are hundreds of theories all over the internet now but the key to all this is the name Hunter Zolomon.
Earlier this season, we saw Jay Garrick(Our Jay, the one who died..This is gonna get confusing) show Caitlin his Earth-1 counterpart, Hunter Zolomon. However, there is no way Zoom is that Hunter Zolomon since he is clearly from Earth-2, with Harrison Wells saying he created him through the particle accelerator explosion. So unless Earth-1 Hunter Zolomon somehow traveled to Earth-2 two years before the singularity opened the breaches, which is highly unlikely, he can’t be Zoom. In a recent interview with Andrew Kreisberg, he said “Zoom’s identity has been revealed: He is Hunter Zolomon a.k.a Jay Garrick.” He specifically said Hunter Zolomon. He then mentions that Jay deceived and betrayed them somehow, manipulating them. But that doesn’t make any sense, since we knew Jay(The dead Jay) as a good guy. So how can there be two Earth-2 Jays? There are several theories, including twins on Earth-2, one is Jay Garrick and the other is Hunter Zolomon(Zoom) which means there are twins on Earth-1, the Hunter Zolomon we saw at the park and another Earth-1 Jay Garrick(Possibly the man in the iron mask). Another theory is that Zoom is not from Earth-2 but from say Earth-3 or Earth-4 and has been traveling the multiverse, finding his doppelgangers which would be Earth-2 Jay and possibly another Jay from another Earth in the iron mask. Earlier this season, Jay said Zoom wanted to be the only speedster on any world. Another unlikely theory is that there are Jay Garrick clones, created by Zoom and one was the Jay we knew with the real Jay in the iron mask. Another theory is that when the particle accelerator exploded, Jay Garrick split into two, a good version of himself and Zoom, a dark manifestation of his speed-obsessed side with the dark side eventually killing the good side. But how would Jay have been betraying and manipulating them all that time? Unless he worked with Zoom somehow to get Barry to go faster, similar to how Zoom tried to get Harrison Wells to steal Barry’s speed for him. And who is the man in the iron mask spelling J-A-Y, and why was he so upset when Barry mentioned that Jay is alive? Perhaps Earth-1 Eddie? We did see his body being sucked into Earth-2 in the Flash Season 1 finale.
Whoever Zoom is, and however he even exists, we will have to wait till The Flash returns Tuesday, March 22nd.
