‘The Good Doctor’ Recap and Review: “Faces”
We’re playing catch up with our favorite doctors! Shaun took a day off to look after Glassman while the lives of two teenagers were impacted on season 2, episode 14 of The Good Doctor. The episode titled “Faces” kicked off with Glassman not too excited to spend a day with Shaun, who took a vacation day. At St. Bonaventure, two girls impacted by accidents were being treated.
The first teen, Molly, was awaiting her 13th surgery to reconstruct her face after an accident with her father’s gun. In the emergency room, Karen was brought in after a car accident. Her mother, Shannon, who had already lost her husband, feared for her daughter’s life after she didn’t wake up. Her fears came to life when Melendez and co. discovered that Karen was brain dead.
Elsewhere, Shaun and Glassman took medical marijuana and ended up creating a mini-golf course in Glassman’s house. The duo started getting the munchies and called an Uber to get mallomars. Back at St. Bonaventure, Melendez tried to comfort Lim about her decisions in the surgery while Andrews went to talk to Karen’s mother. He asked her to consider donating Karen’s face. Shannon refused until she saw Molly with Claire in an elevator.
While Glassman and Shaun ended up back at his old high school in search of his teenage crush, the staff at Bonaventure gathered for the walk of honor as Karen was taken into the OR. The scene was emotional and despite its sadness, beautiful. It was certainly weird to see the surgeons moving the facial tissue from Karen to Molly, but the emotional weight behind it made it easier to ignore.
Shaun and Glassman ended up in Portland after learning his crush, Robin, was married and lived there. After an eleven hour drive, Glassman revealed that one of his biggest regrets was leaving her a mean message in her yearbook for ignoring him, especially when he learned after the fact that she had wanted him to ask her out. He offered his apologies. She accepted and gave them mallomars.
After a successful surgery, Molly was in awe over her new face. Shannon left her with an album of photos of Karen before saying her final goodbye to her daughter’s likeness. Elsewhere, Lim and Melendez tried to navigate the early stages of their relationship and how to behave towards each other at work. Back at home, Glassman and Shaun decided to leave the clean up for later and Shaun revealed he wasn’t okay with Lea dating Jake.
Final take on The Good Doctor, episode 14
Thank goodness Shaun and Glassman got high and went on an adventure because this episode was excellent but HEAVY. The performances from all of this episode’s guest actors were great. The walk of honor scene pretty much ruined my feelings and was a beautiful moment to watch. I can’t imagine witnessing a moment like this in real life. I enjoyed learning about Glassman’s youth and loved the Uber driver played by Mo Gaffney, she was pretty cool. Looking forward to seeing how Lim and Melendez navigate their relationship. I’m giving The Good Doctor, episode 14 a 10 out of 10.
The Good Doctor airs Mondays at 10 PM on ABC. You can catch up on season two on Hulu and ABC.com.
