The Walking Dead

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

October 23rd is important to many of us and for one reason only; The Walking Dead hits our screens with the premier of Season 7. The fandom has been divided into two, one side hoping their favourite character hasn’t been bashed over the head with Lucille by the new big bad, Negan and the other half whose favourite character is doing the bashing, personally, I’m with the latter.

Season 6 ended with the much-anticipated arrival of the Leader of the saviors and the man whom everyone was mentioning, Negan. The showdown between him and Rick’s group left a lot of people sour especially since it ended on a climactic cliff hanger; Negan raised his bat and knocked one out of the park, literally. Everyone was desperate to know who had met their sticky end and I know a lot of fans even went as far as to watch it all in slow motion and try to map out the position of every character in order to figure it out. A lot of people have their theories about who they think it could be but we won’t know for sure until October. So, when they announced that a trailer would be released at Comic Con everyone went wild with the hopes of getting more information on the victim. Alas, in true AMC style that wasn’t going to be and it was still as much a secret as ever.

So, what did we learn from the trailer? Apart from the fact whomever got chosen did in fact have their last day on earth, the shots of a blood soaked and dripping Lucille was sure enough to cement that idea that Negan carries through on his threats and that this wasn’t a hoax like that one time Glenn rolled under the dumpster, there wasn’t any dumpsters beside that RV I can tell you that for sure. The shots of Negan all possessed an air of power, to show us that he really is running the show now, especially after seeing his band of saviors bowing down on one knee as he passes, I mean, I don’t know about you but any one man who generates that much power and respect is surely something to fear, right?

Carol and Morgan have arrived safely at The Kingdom, their ruler; King Ezekiel seems a lot less scary than Negan at first that is until you meet Shiva, the tiger who sits at King Ezekiel’s side. This is where some spoilers come into it, so, if you want to stay Comic Book spoiler free then I suggest you turn away now, if not, follow me into the pit of darkness.

Who is King Ezekiel and what important part does he play in the whole Zombie Apocalypse? Ezekiel initially made his debut in Issue 108, not much is known about him pre apocalypse except that used to be a Zoo Keeper and that he has known Shiva since her birth, which would give them a pretty strong bond. His character is eccentric, and a bit flamboyant, yet, I still wouldn’t mess with him. Ezekiel and Paul Monroe seem to be close friends, bonding over their hatred for Negan, and he even tries to team up with Rick in hopes of defeating Negan. Yet, since the TV show and the comics have differed I can only assume the romance that happened between Ezekiel and Michonne won’t be happening this series but never say never, that is if Michonne isn’t the one on the other end of the bat.

What can we expect from Negan this season? Personally, I see a lot of rules going up for the group, Negan likes to be boss and he wants half of their shit, after the damage that will be seen in the first episode of season 7 I think it’s only fair that Rick will bow down, but as we all know he won’t just let Negan walk all over him and assume the position, plans of how to stop and disarm the saviors will probably also take place. Maybe, this season finale will be a showdown, Rick vs. Negan in all-out war.

Also, the rumor mill has been turning and I’ve heard that the whisperers and their leader Alpha may be introduced this season, leaving us not only with the tyrant Negan but also with the threat of a lady maniac almost just as bad as Negan himself. If this is possible then I can see Rick and his group having to join with one of them to dispatch the other.

With these questions left to be answered I sincerely hope AMC will send out a few more teasing snippets before the show starts.
