This week was a busy week in the entertainment world. From news on castings to box office success, the press has been busy. One of the biggest stories this week is the news that Joss Whedon will no longer be writing or directing Warner Bros. and DC’s Batgirl project. Yesterday, Whedon had this to say to The Hollywood Reporter regarding his departure:

“Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story.”

Joss Whedon joined the project in March 2017, but some doubted him after parts of his Wonder Woman script draft were released online. No word on who’s taking over, but author Roxanne Gay threw her name in the loop. Her latest work includes several volumes of Marvel’s World of Wakanda.

Speaking of Marvel’s Black Panther, the film is set to pass $500 million dollars worldwide this week. Many are watching closely to see how the film will do in the Chinese market, a huge market that often dictates a film’s international box office success. The film will release today in Russia, Japan next week, and finally in China on March 9th.

Joss WhedonIn casting news, Netflix’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina added Miranda Otto and Richard Coyle to the cast as Aunt Zelda and Father Blackwood. Otto is well known by fans of the Lord of The Rings series, playing the role of Eowyn in The Two Towers and Return of the King.

Some of her other work includes roles on 24: Legacy, Homeland, and War of the Worlds. Coyle has starred in Prince of Persia alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, The Collection, and the tv mini-series Born to Kill.  In the series, Blackwood is the High Priest of the Church of Night and Dean of the Academy of the Unseen Arts.

New in trailers this week, FX released teasers and sneak peeks for the second seasons of Legion and Atlanta. FX Networks has been releasing a series of mini-previews for Donald Glover’s series over the last week. The series returns next Thursday, March 1st at 10 PM while Legion returns April 3rd.

We also got a new trailer for Jessica Jones season 2, which starts streaming March 8th.

Final note: There’s a ton of new music to check out from Janelle Monae, Logic, and 2 Chainz to Imagine Dragons and Vance Joy. Cheers to the weekend!
