The new season of the PGA Tour kicks of next week in Napa, CA. New seasons always have an air of excitement around them, but the Safeway Open has just become a little bit bigger.

Tiger Woods announced that he will be returning to golf for this event. It will mark exactly 417 days since Tiger last competed in a golf tournament (the Wyndham Championship). He feels he has recovered enough to get back on the links.

The real question will be whether or not he can contend, or at least make the cut?

Woods is currently ranked 767th in the World Golf Rankings. In his last stint back from recovery he mustered one top-10 finish, but spent a lot of time being irrelevant.

Needless to say, with his return, the Safeway Open will be a very popular event.

The Safeway Open begins on Thursday, October 13th.
