‘Til DEATHS Do You Part – Bates Motel
Initially, I assumed Bates Motel would be a mediocre knock off of the Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho series; however I was pleasantly surprised that the material and plot are original and can effectively capture any Psycho movie fan’s interest. With constant drama and intense twists, the events become edgier and the outcomes tend to be unpredictable.
This Monday’s episode was the most disturbing as Norman’s unstable behavior escalates to the point where he even endangers his mother, Norma. ? Needless to say, this was suspected to happen anyhow since fans such as myself know he killed his mom in the movie. How will Gates and Carbonell seal the fate of the mother-son duo though?
Recently, we witness Norma and Alex set up a fake wedding and word spreads fast around the small town of White Pine Bay. The pair have difficulty figuring out what the other wants out of the relationship; however sexual tension is building up hastily. Meanwhile, Norman admits himself into Pineview and struggles with trusting Dr. Edwards. Norma finally visits Norman due to emotional distress over their previous quarrel. Norman convinces himself that Norma is the one in need of psychiatric help and furiously tells her she means nothing to him anymore after the danger she’s put him through. ‘Til Death Do You Part ends with Norman informing Dr. Edwards that he believes his mother is responsible various murders. gasp We, as the viewers, know who is the real culprit but how long will it take White Pine Bay law enforcement to discover the truth as investigation will surely be underway. Norman is spiraling out of control quickly and we are expecting Season 5. How much more insane can he become? Everyone’s secrets are unraveling as Norman delves deeper into madness. How much longer until he kills again?
I predict he’ll still kill his mother later on. How? Hopefully in a brutal and heart wrenching manner where Norma pleads for her life while Norman hovers over her, completely maddened by schizophrenia. For one sheer moment, we notice a light in his eyes as Norma tries to talk sense into him out of his sadistic state, only to have it squandered by the desire for retribution for his father’s death. Though he imagines his father telling him Norma’s responsible for his death, we all know his father had very abusive tendencies, especially towards Norma, and Norman has always been highly protective of his mother. Without a doubt, Norman was driven to kill his father by the same factor that incited him to murder others: his inappropriate bond with his mother. However I don’t expect this until much later in the season or perhaps next. I’m sure there are many interesting turn of events to come will Norman being taken into custody.
Poor Romero. Sheriff Alex Romero is a far cry from the candid, respectable deputy we knew from the first episode. Now he accumulated a few secrets of his own ever since he started protecting the Bates. No doubt all secrets will unravel and haunt Romero, as well as, the Bates. Agreeing to Norma’s proposal will be his utter downfall later in the season. It’s inevitably going to be a toxic relationship. Does he love Norma? I think so, sadly. Does Norma love him? Probably not. She seems to be attached to him because he’s the only man who’s truly sacrificed for her. If she loved him, she wouldn’t keep taking advantage of him. This joining will gradually damage Romero’s heart and reputation. The writers’ can make up it to Alex and fans by giving us what we’ve all been waiting for… Sex scene! (No, showing them walking upstairs making out wasn’t satisfying enough.)
