The Timber-Bulls may have seen the last use of that name now that the Timberwolves have fired Head Coach Tom Thibodeau.

Thibodeau was supposed to be the answer to making the Minnesota a contender. He did lead the Timberwolves to their first playoff berth in 14 seasons last year, but the team has underperformed thus far.

The original turmoil stemmed from an issue with team chemistry and Thibodeau’s former player Jimmy Butler. It seemed like the trade of Butler had improved the team, but they have once again become stagnant.

Their defensive rating has them ranked 20th in the league, which is the value Thibodeau was really going to turn around for this team.

The Timberwolves are currently 19-21 and are 11th in the Western Conference.

Ryan Saunders, an assistant coach and son of former coach Flip Saunders, will act as interim head coach.

Minnesota’s next game is on Tuesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
