Titans continue offensive rebuild: Draft Green-Beckham and Poutasi
The Tennessee Titans made up for a lack of drama in the first round by trading the first pick of the second round to the Giants, and subsequently got the guy they were targeting all along with the 40th pick. They selected WR from Missouri, Dorial Green-Beckham with their 2nd Round pick. They also picked up the Giants 4th & 7th round picks in the trade. The Titans then take a guy that could help buy Mariota some time to get the ball to Green-Beckham in Jeremiah Poutasi, Tackle from Utah. Poutasi may lack power and athleticism but he is 6’5 335 lbs and takes up space. The Titans plan is becoming more apparent through the 3rd Round…get better offensively.

Dorial Green-Beckham is a 6’5 freak athlete with a very troubled past. His off-the-field issues are the only reason he even fell to the 40th overall pick. He was suspended twice at Missouri before finally being dismissed from the team. He has height and hands that you just can’t teach. He also has the physical tools to overcome his poor route running and work ethic. The major concern for Tennessee should be is Green-Beckham going to trend more towards a number one guy on the depth chart, or will he trend more towards being another Josh Gordon.
The Titans then select a big guy to help block for Mariota who will need some time in the pocket to learn the pro system. They select 6’5 335 lb Jeremiah Poutasi from Utah. Poutasi is going to be a work in progress guy for the Titans. His main asset is he takes up space and can move pretty well laterally. He also has a wide wing span and is just a monster to deal with for opposing rushers. He has shown raw strength at times man handling defenders but will have to adjust to the speed of NFL defensive ends and outside linebackers rushing off the edge. This might have been a reach for the Titans at the 66th pick.

The bottom line is the Titans need to get a lot better on offense and are taking some chances to try to address that. You have the sense that Green-Beckham is either going to be a star or a complete bust. No in between. If he can behave, and Mariota does turn out to be the truth, then the Titans should be significantly better starting this year. One thing is for certain, the fans in Nashville can’t say the Titans haven’t tried to make an impact in the draft this year. Through the first two days of the 2015 NFL draft, the Titans have already satisfied fans by drafting bigger names than the last several years combined. They seem to have a direct plan and have gained the confidence of the fans along the way. Only time will tell if this plan worked.
Day 2 Draft Grade: B+
