Tom Brady and playoff underdog go together like peanut butter and tuna fish. The New England Patriots opened as underdogs for Sunday’s AFC Championship Game. This will be just the seventh time in Brady’s career that he has not been a favorite in the playoffs. If the line stays, it will break Brady’s 67 consecutive game streak as a favorite–dating back to September 2015.

Let’s look back at the six other times Brady has been on the plus-side of the point spread….

2014 AFC Championship Game

  • Result: Lost, 26-16
  • Spread: +5
  • Opponent: Broncos

2007 AFC Championship Game

  • Result: Lost, 38-34
  • Spread: +3.5
  • Opponent: Colts

2007 AFC Divisional Round

  • Result: Won, 24-21
  • Spread: +5
  • Opponent: Chargers

2006 AFC Divisional Round

  • Result: Lost, 27-13
  • Spread: +3
  • Opponent: Broncos

Super Bowl XXXVI (2002)

  • Result: Won, 20-17
  • Spread: +14
  • Opponent: Rams

2002 AFC Championship Game

  • Result: Won, 24-17
  • Spread: +10
  • Opponent: Steelers

After the Patriots’ win over the Chargers, Brady told CBS that “everybody thinks we suck and can’t win any games.” Wide receiver Julian Edelman added: “We’re the underdog this week (against the Chiefs). I’m going to jump on that train and roll with it. That’s my life.”

It’s been five years since he was last an underdog. What does this mean for the Chiefs game on Sunday? Not too much if you ask me. Brady’s history as a favorite won’t have any impact on the outcome of this game. However, as a favorite he is 42-23-2 ATS during his 67-game streak.
