EPL

With the Premier League back again, let’s take a look at the top stories from this weekend’s action.

1. Lukaku’s perfomance in his Old Trafford debut

All eyes were on Romelu Lukaku on Sunday. The newly signed Manchester United striker netted two goals and showed his passion, desire, and charge to get a hat trick. That tenacity is what Jose Mourinho and the Manchester United faithful need this year. In his post match interviews, Lukaku explained in his role as a striker he knows what’s expected of him because he expects that of himself.

2. The opening match, Arsenal vs. Leicester City

A seven goal thriller that started with a newly signed Alexandre Lacazette header and ended with an unlikely winner from Olivier Giroud. Leicester gave Arsenal a fight as the two clubs fight to try to regain the strong form they both had two years ago.

3. Liverpool ends up with disappointing draw after Watford stoppage time stunner

Along with the looming shadow of a potential Philippe Coutinho transfer to FC Barcelona, Liverpool found themselves on the end of a draw after Watford scored an equalizer to salvage a point. Liverpool are the better team on paper but their back four was a glaring issue in this game. A Virgil Van Dijk transfer may be in the coming days if Jurgen Klopp wants a shot at the league title.

4. Wayne Rooney scores in his Everton regular season debut

The former Manchester United all time scoring put his mark on the field with a great goal to stir the Everton faithful. He will be someone manager Ronald Koeman will rely on and bring Everton back to European football. With Lukaku at Manchester United, it will be a tough road ahead but there is a chance with consistency from Rooney full year round.

5. New number and name decals

The Premier League has changed the number and name styling on the jerseys this year giving a very modern look to the game. It has been received well by players and fans and will be a nice mainstay for years to come.
