Top 5 Stories from Premier League Matchweek 11
11 games in and we had some interesting matches to watch over the weekend in the Premier League, let’s go over the highlights.
1. Leicester honor late owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in Match of the Week
It was tradegy last weekend after Leicester’s match against West Ham. Their owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha traditionally always had a helicopter pick him up from inside the stadium after a home match. The chopper failed suddenly and crashed just outside the stadium. Vichai along with four others all died in the accident. The football community has collectively sent their condolences to the club and the love was overwhelming as it was Vichai who helped guide Leicester to their title-winning season a few years ago. Leicester got the job done at Cardiff with a 1-0 victory. There was very questionable refereeing throughout the match but otherwise it was a great effort from the Foxes under the hard emotions.
2. Man City thrash Southampton 6-1
It went completely wrong for Southampton from the outgoing. Defender Wesley Holdt scored an own goal in the 6th minute. City immediately capitalized turning the game into a 4-1 deficit by halftime. Southampton’s loan goal came from loaned player Danny Ings in the 29th minute. City scored again in the 67th minute and in second half stoppage time.
3. Rashford scores late winner for Man United
It was another tale of two halves for Mourinho’s Red Army. The first Manchester United were down 1-0 early to Bournemouth. Anthony Martial equalized to make it 1-1 in the 35th minute. The second half, United were a shut down force on Bournemouth keeping them out of the net despite decent chances by the Cherries. It was Marcus Rashford who scored off a cross from Paul Pogba to make it 2-1.
4. Spurs manage escape from Molineux
The Wolves showed their teeth against the Spurs despite going down 2-0 to go into halftime. Young star midfielder Ruben Neves scored two penalties to still keep the Wolves in the match despite the fact the deciding third goal had been scored before any comeback could be mounted.
5. West Ham outlast Burnley in 4-2 victory
There’s been a lot of high scoring games in the Premier League this year and they just keep on rolling. The game was 1-1 at halftime, with second half dull until the 67th minute when Felipe Anderson would score for West Ham to make it 2-1. Burnley would equalize until Felipe Anderson would grab his second goal to make it 3-2. Javier Chicharito Hernandez made it 4-2 in stoppage time.
Matchweek 12 starts this Saturday.
