With the international break over, the Premier League is back in rhythm. Let’s take a look at the top headlines from this weekend’s action.
1. Arsenal wins Round 1 in the North London Derby against the Spurs
It was a surprise that Tottenham couldn’t even score a goal in this matchup. Arsenal’s 2-0 victory was sealed in the 41st minute with an Alexis Sanchez goal. Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi scored the previous goal five minutes before. It was a physical game with five yellow cards issues throughout the match. Arsenal still remain in 6th position, while the Spurs drop to 4th.
2. Callum Wilson’s hat trick gives AFC Bournemouth 4-0 victory, 13th in PL table
With a resounding victory over Huddersfield Town, AFC Bournemouth has something to smile about. They’ve climbed out of relegation and perhaps they may be here to stay. Callum Wilson scored two goals in the first half and scored the last goal of the game in the 84th minute. Midfielder Harry Arter contributed the 4th goal in the 70th minute. Huddersfield still remain 10th in the table.
3. Pogba returns from injury to help Manchester United to 4-1 victory over Newcastle United
Pogba returned to the starting lineup over the weekend with Manchester United. He was a key part of the attacks United put on, giving an assist to United’s first goal by Anthony Martial. He scored his goal in the 54th minute. Both Manchester and Newcastle United haven’t moved from their previous positions of 2nd and 11th, respectively.
4. West Brom manager Tony Pulis sacked after Chelsea defeat
Chelsea went on the road to score a 4-0 win and send former manager Tony Pulis packing. With an Eden Hazard brace and goals from Alvaro Morata and Marcos Alonso, Chelsea dominated West Brom. Midfielder Cesc Fabregas assisted two of Chelsea’s goals. There were five yellow cards given out during the game. Chelsea go up to 3rd position in the table while West Brom drop to 17th.
5. Salah brace helps Liverpool to 3-0 victory over Southampton
Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah scored his brace in the first half to put the game away. Philippe Coutinho netted in the 68th minute to add to Southampton’s misery. Liverpool remain 5th while Southampton drop to 14th.
