Top 5 Stories from Premier League Matchweek 13
Now’s the time when the Premier League is in 6th gear. Games are more frequent, and the table gets juicy with storylines from top to bottom with each team. Let’s recap #13.
1. Willian saves Chelsea in 1-1 draw with Liverpool
In the 85th minute, Chelsea midfielder Willian scored a stunner to keep Chelsea from losing too many points in the top of the table. It was a huge spoiler for Liverpool who grabbed their goal midway in the second half. Mohamed Salah scored in the 65th minute, and during his celebration decided to show consolation in prayer to the victims in the Egyptian mosque terror attack days before the match. Chelsea remain 3rd in the table while Liverpool drop to 6th.
2. Southampton pummels Everton 4-1
The first half was a struggle for the Toffees, as Everton couldn’t score until stoppage time in the first half. It was 1-1 at the halftime whistle. The second half was a scoring clinic from Southampton. Striker Charlie Austin put in a brace performance in 6 minutes with goals in the 52nd and 58th minute. Steven Davis finished it off in the 87th. Southampton rise to 10th while Everton remain 16th.
3. Man City remain invincible with 2-1 win over Huddersfield
Raheem Sterling helped to keep City’s lead in the table over their noisy neighbors in second. Violence marred the end of the game as Huddersfield had a player sent off in stoppage time. Huddersfield drop to 11th with the loss.
4. West Brom draw with Spurs in wake of manager sacking
West Brom striker Salomon Rondon scored in the 4th minute which must’ve been one of the most uplifting moments of the game. Harry Kane equalized in the 74th minute to spoil what was a great defense from West Brom. The Spurs drop to 5th while West Brom remain 17th.
5. Watford grab 3-0 win over Newcastle
Watford helped keep the Newcastle fans silent on the road. With a 2-0 lead at halftime, Watford weren’t challenged at all, with help from an own goal even from Newcastle defender DeAndre Yedlin. The win still keeps Watford in 8th but Newcastle drop to 14th.
This week the Premier League action kicks off. Tuesday and runs through the week Wednesday, and then into weekend Saturday and Sunday.
